Tribhuvan University (TU), established in 1959, is Nepal’s first and oldest national institution of higher education. Located in Kirtipur, just five kilometers from central Kathmandu, the university spans over 154.77 hectares of land. As a non-profit and autonomous institution, TU is funded by the Government of Nepal.

TU offers a broad range of academic programs through its five institutes and four faculties, encompassing 44 central departments, 64 constituent campuses, and 1060 affiliated colleges. It plays a central role in shaping the country’s higher education landscape.
The university’s governance structure places the Prime Minister of Nepal as the Chancellor and the Minister of Education as the Pro-Chancellor. The Vice Chancellor serves as the chief executive, supported by the Rector for academic affairs and the Registrar for financial and administrative matters.
Tribhuvan University employs 7,950 teaching faculty and 7,122 non-teaching and support staff, making a total workforce of 15,072 individuals dedicated to advancing education in Nepal.
